Abstract
Iraq is home to a diverse range of religious, cultural, ethnic, and linguistic minorities, each with unique genetic characteristics. The Hawrami (Gurani) ethnic groups, thought to be descendants of people from the Caspian Sea region, reside in provinces along the Iraq–Iran border. This study is the first to present DNA profiling of 110 healthy, unrelated individuals from the Hawrami population in Iraq. The study analyzed allele frequency distributions, allelic patterns, and forensic statistical parameters for 20 short tandem repeat loci, and variant alleles were identified. The findings of this research could be valuable for forensic applications and population comparisons as a baseline database for the Iraqi Hawrami population.
