Abstract
A new design of ureteral catheter has significant advantages for subsequent manipulations. Externally, this catheter is similar to the commonly used whistle-tip ureteral catheter, but its internal architecture has been altered to allow easy passage of a guidewire through its tip if subsequent manipulation is required. For ease of insertion, the catheter has a smooth round tip rather than an open end, and the lumen is directed out through a sidehole near the tip. We have used the new catheter extensively and have found it to be an improvement over both the conventional whistle-tip and the open-end models.
