Abstract
The authors describe a new technique for the endoscopic resection of the severely enlarged prostate gland involving the introduction of the endoscope suprapubically into the bladder, which has previously been hitched up to the abdominal wall with a nylon suture. This new technique makes use of wide-bore instruments. It is possible to resect larger prostates endoscopically than would be dealt with by the standard transurethral method. It is a technically simple procedure to perform. Although a 28F sheath is the largest that has been used to date, it is envisaged that with instruments of an even larger caliber, almost all prostates could be resected endoscopically.
