Abstract
A new suprapubic device that automatically regulates the intravesical pressure during transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) keeps a constantly low intravesical pressure. The outflowing irrigation fluid overflows constantly into a small open transparent glass jar attached to the trocar right above the abdominal wall. The intravesical pressure is determined by the height of the jar above the bladder, making it independent of the irrigant flow. Pressures ranging from 14 to 18 cm H20 assure that the bladder does not collapse, thus maintaining constant anatomic relations throughout the entire operation leading to markedly improved overall vision.
