Abstract
We describe a case of percutaneous removal of a metallic foreign body from the renal hilar soft tissue in a 28-year-old man who was injured while pushing a lawn mower. A fragment of metal measuring 0.2 x 0.2 x 1.2 cm was propelled through the umbilical area into the left upper quadrant, lodging in the renal hilus. Emergency laparotomy was required for repair of perforated small bowel, but the surgeon was unable to retrieve the fragment because of a large hematoma surrounding the left kidney. The patient presented 4 months later with persistent left flank and upper quadrant pain and desired removal of the foreign body.
