Abstract
Two patients had a nephrectomy 4 and 12 months after a percutaneous nephrolithotomy was performed on the same kidney. Although in both cases a 30F percutaneous tract had been created through an inferior calix, perirenal fibrosis in the lower pole area was negligible, and there were only minimal microscopic changes in the parenchyma of the lower pole. Another most interesting finding was that the tracts ran nicely parallel to the interlobular vessels of the kidney. All these findings prove percutaneous nephrolithotomy to be a safe and reliable procedure that causes minimal damage to the kidney.
