Abstract
Small nonobstructing yet painful renal calculi present a major therapeutic dilemma for both the patient and the urologist. Previous options included long-term analgesic use or major renal explorations, which often led to nephrectomy. We present a series of six patients, all with small (1- to 3-mm) painful renal calculi, who underwent ESWL and remain stone and pain free.
