Abstract
Flexible cystoscopy can be performed in both males and females with the patient in nearly any position. Access to the urethra can be obtained more easily when there is a catheter present in the bladder by passing a guidewire through the catheter and then passing the flexible cystoscope over the guidewire. This technique has been particularly useful in gaining cystoscopic access to the bladder with patients in the prone or supine position during the course of other operative procedures.
