Abstract
A simplified analytic solution for calculating overall collection efficiency of polydispersed aerosol by a cyclone separator was studied. The generalized Lapple's collection efficiency was modified for polydispersed aerosol under the assumption of lognormal particle size distribution. Approximate overall collection efficiency was compared with numerically estimated results in various size distribution parameters, and showed good agreement. This study evaluated the effect of polydispersity on overall collection efficiency in a cyclone separator. Results can be applied to the estimation of collection efficiency of a cyclone separator and in the error analysis of cyclone separation of polydispersed aerosol.
