Abstract
The overuse of electronic media that now characterizes modern society negatively impacts our relationship with the natural world in multiple ways, from commercial media's encouragement of overconsumption to the loss of quiet moments of engagement with nature. In this paper, I describe an assignment I give in ecopsychology and related university courses in which students fast from electronic media for one week. Extensive guidelines for the fast are presented. Although the fast is only a week long, students report a wide range of benefits, many of which are directly relevant to the concerns of ecopsychology.
