Abstract
Nutrition and exercise have received much attention as interventions related to disease prevention. The first article of this two-part series reviewed current information related to the roles of nutrition and dietary factors in the prevention of seven of the most common, costly, chronic disease states. This article, the second of this two-part series, reviews evidence specifically linking exercise and physical activity to prevention of these same seven disease states. Also included in this article are potential risks associated with and guidelines for the development of individual and community exercise programs.
