Abstract
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Loren (Larry) Parsons, PhD, on June 21, 2016. Larry was Professor in the Committee on the Neurobiology of Addictive Disorders at The Scripps Research Institute of La Jolla, California. He was recruited to Scripps in 1992, promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2009, and to Professor in 2014.
Larry's unique talent to combine a deep understanding of brain microdialysis with sophisticated behavioral and neuropharmacological techniques led to foundational discoveries in the field of endocannabinoid research, including seminal studies on the role of endocannabinoid signaling in stress-responsive brain circuits during substance withdrawal.
In addition to being a creative scientist of international stature, Larry was a wonderful teacher, mentor, and collaborator. He will be greatly missed.
