Abstract
Genetically modified (GM) crops are developed and marketed when there is some professed advantage to either the producer or consumer of these foods. Uncertainty about the impact of GM crops is one rationale for the widespread public mistrust of this technology. The issues, whether legal or environmental, relating to GM crops or foods have sparked intense debate in various parts of the world, including India. It is imperative to ascertain the judicious and equitable utilization of GM crops in pursuit of the objectives to alleviate hunger and attain food security. This technology has raised enormous expectations, leading to heated political controversies and an ongoing debate about how to evaluate these technologies. This study seeks to conduct an analysis of the issues associated with GM crop safety, with an emphasis on how national regimes are keeping pace with international regulatory initiatives. This study highlights the lack of inclusive laws as well as efficient enforcement for biosafety issues. The model expresses the necessity of safeguarding human health and the environment from the probable hostile effects of the products of present biotechnology.
