Abstract
Background:
We aimed to share our revisional surgery results, performed after unsuccessful laparoscopic gastric plication (LGP).
Materials and Methods:
Ten obese patients, who had revisional bariatric surgery, were included in the study. Body mass index (BMI), excessive weight loss (EWL), the time between first and revisional surgery, and what was done in revisional surgery were recorded.
Results:
The patient files of three male and seven female obese patients between 19 and 50 years of age with a history of LGP were reviewed retrospectively. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) was performed for six patients, and laparoscopic replication was performed for other four patients. After a mean follow-up of 10 months, there was no significant difference between BMI and EWL values of sleeve gastrectomy and replication groups. The revisional surgeries were completed laparoscopically and there was no morbidity or mortality in the postoperative period.
Conclusion:
Laparoscopic replication or LSG can be used as a revisional surgical method for patients who cannot lose enough weight or gain weight again. Although the quantity of patients and follow-up period is short, early results suggest that these two methods have similar results in revisional surgery.
