An interview was conducted with a morbidly obese registered nurse who was also a patient in a nursing home. He describes his experience during an admission to a large acute care hospital. Needed areas of improvement identified by the patient and his wife included better staff-to-staff communication about effective ways to handle the patient, acknowledgment of the patient's capacity to handle himself, conversations with the family about care and expectations, as well as knowledge and use of available equipment.
