Abstract
This case study describes a patient who had a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and presented to bariatric surgery clinic with bleeding gums, ataxia, fatigue, and numbness and tingling of extremities 11 months after his bypass. A nutrition assessment revealed increased nausea and vomiting, sporadic vitamin and mineral intake, and severely decreased oral intake. This patient was found to have several nutrient deficiencies, including vitamin C, and he eventually required a gastrostomy tube to supplement his limited oral intake.
