Abstract
Obesity among Americans and around the world continues to climb. The World Health Organization estimates that more then 2.3 billion adults will be obese by the year 2015. While the medical and surgical literature expands on management techniques for the obese, very little exists to guide the perioperative nurse. This paper will discuss perioperative concerns for the obese patient, with an emphasis on postoperative care.
