Abstract
This article describes the perioperative and anesthesia nursing implications of some of the comorbidities associated with obesity. Specifically, we explain the cardiovascular and pulmonary changes associated with excess adipose tissue. Current evidence based practices that may help mitigate undesirable effects are identified. Finally, we address the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles to consider in selection and dosing of common perioperative medications.
