Abstract
Recurrent incisional hernias are a clinical and surgical challenge in obese patients. In addition to tension on the repair created by abdominal girth, poor wound healing and immobility also contribute to recurrence in these patients. Specific postoperative nursing care strategies to prevent complications in complex hernia repairs are discussed. Surgical considerations including concomitant repair of hernia with bariatric surgery, panniculectomy, and individual care planning are also discussed.
