Abstract
The authors surveyed communitybased AIDS services agencies to determine whether a comprehensive approach to treating this multidimensional problem was being taken. Five categories of services were identified: education/information; referrals to other agencies; direct services; counseling; and health care. Almost all the agencies responding to the survey provided the first two services listed, and a clear majority offered the third and fourth. Health services, however, were offered by less than half those reporting. While the sample provides initial evidence that these agencies are attempting to provide, directly or indirectly, the range of human services needed when dealing with a problem of this magnitude, questions regarding the provision of health services, and their coordination with the others, remain for further investigation.
