Abstract
Since Mitz and Peyronie described the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) in 1976 the SMAS facelift has become common. The author's idea to lift the whole SMAS in a temporal direction is realized in the surgical technique termed temporal SMAS lift by minimal hidden incisions. This ambulatory SMAS lift is helpful for changing the "mask of tragedy" appearance into one resembling the "mask of comedy" in surgery performed for beautification, soft-tissue laxity, early facial ptosis, and revision facelifts.
