Abstract
Both traditional and ultrasonic liposuction cannulae are usually relatively rigid, which has its advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include ease of manually controlled movement, manufacturing simplicity, and efficiency of propagation of ultrasonic energy. Disadvantages include the fact that most areas of the human body are curviform and that the combination of straightness and rigidity places undesirable forces on the tissues adjacent to the cannula tips and tissues of the entrance wounds. Herein we introduce novel designs for two related systems of cannulae of 2.5–6 mm in shaft diameter, both of which rely on highly flexible cannula shafts in combination with a reinforced swan neck.
