Abstract
A comprehensive search of the literature on diabetes disease management was conducted to identify reports concerning the impact of educational interventions on diabetes treatment and management. Fifty-six studies met the inclusion criteria. They described multiple disease management interventions, which varied in style across health care delivery sites and providers. An analysis of the penetration, trends, and growth of disease management programs is provided. This article also discusses why diabetes is often selected for disease management intervention, the management and treatment of diabetes, and a review of the diabetes disease management literature.
