Abstract
A parametric study was performed to determine the effects of hydrogen peroxide on the absorption of oxides of nitrogen in alkaline solutions. The initial NO:NO2 ratio was 1:0, 1:1, or 0:1, and the initial concentration of nitrogen oxides in air was 1,000 ppmv. The NO:NO2 ratio had a major influence on overall removal efficiency by alkaline solutions with or without H2O2. Removal efficiencies were relatively high when this ratio was 1:1 or 0:1, but was much lower when this ratio was 1:0. Addition of up to 1-g/L H2O2 improved NOx removal for all initial NO:NO2 ratios tested.
