The Necessity for Training in Pediatric Endoscopic Surgery

Abstract

With rapid changes in techniques and greater insight has come an increasing awareness of the need for more formalized and standardized training programs. Training may be acquired through apprenticeships, courses, or fellowships in expert centers. Expert centers, which offer coaching during procedures, practice on animal models, and skills training with videotrainers or in virtual reality, provide the best facilities for educational programs. International organizations such as the International Pediatric Endoscopy Group should seek and validate means to assess and ensure technical competence.
