Abstract
Complications of gynecologic laparoscopic surgery have been reported, including damage to the colon, bladder, or ureter. However, subphrenic abscess is rare except in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The authors describe a 44-year-old woman who underwent laparoscopic surgery for hemosalpinx, which was complicated by subphrenic abscess formation postoperatively. The abscess formation in this patient may have been caused by the spread of infection whose source was the pelvic cavity, which may have been facilitated by placement of the patient in the 30° Trendelenburg position during laparoscopic surgery.
