Abstract
Dean D. Metcalfe, M.D., is Chief, Laboratory of Allergic Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, and Allergy and Immunology Training Program Director, NIH Clinical Center. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Arizona University, and a Master of Science in Microbiology from the University of Michigan. Dr. Metcalfe received his M.D. degree from the University of Tennessee, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at University of Michigan Affiliated Hospitals. Subsequently, he was an Allergy Immunology Fellow with the United States Public Health Service, at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a Rheumatology Fellow at Robert B. Brigham Hospital, and a Fellow in Immunology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Metcalfe is on the editorial boards of Clinical Reviews in Allergy and Immunology, Giornale Italiano di Allergologia e Immunologia Clinica, Clinical and Experimental Allergy, the Journal of Investigational Allergology and Clinical Immunology, and the International Journal of Immunopathology and Pharmacology.
