A series of new bis[3-(2-propenylphenoxy)phthalimides] has been synthesized from bis(3-nitrophthalimides) and o-propenylphenol-sodium involving a nucleophilic nitrodisplacement reaction. The chemical structures lre confirmed using 'H-NMR spectroscopy and show evidence of two stereo isomeric structures for the propenyl group (E:Z ratio 10:1). The new bis(propenylphenoxy)phthalimides copolymerize with bismaleimide as shown via differential scanning calorimetry analysis and provide temperature resistant polymeric networks.
