Abstract
This paper presents results on characterisation of a lateritic nickel ore of Indian origin (Sukinda, Orissa) by various physical, chemical and thermal techniques. The study also includes quantitative phase analysis (QPA) of high resolution XRD plot using Rietveld structural refinement with the aid of pseudo-Voigt peak shape model. The overburden sample contained four major crystalline phases, namely quartz, goethite, iron chromite and aluminium silicate hydroxide. The information obtained from various techniques corroborated well with the results of Rietveld structural refinement.
