Abstract

In the interest of full disclosure, this book is published by a subsidiary of Taylor & Francis.
This is a great book. It is hardware oriented, which is definitely outside my area of expertise. And yet, I found it very easy to read and interesting. It addresses practical issues in a practical way. And yet, it has a great deal of technical depth. The author states that the book is an extension of his PhD dissertation, and I wish that I were on committees with dissertations like this.
The book is very much centered on wireless networking and sensor nodes. It provides a very in depth description and analysis of wireless networking from the network layer down to the physical layer. Every aspect is oriented towards someone with an electrical engineering background. While network protocols are dealt with in great detail, the author is never far away from how the circuits are designed for hardware implementations. While I would typically imagine my eyes glazing over in boredom when looking at circuit designs, I found the writing style to be very engaging.
Power management and antenna design are issues that I think are better dealt with here than in other books.
I have started using this book as my authoritative reference for questions involving zigbee, bluetooth, and other wireless protocols.
