Abstract
Gilded equestrian statue of George Washington, enshrined in the Idaho State Capitol in Boise. An Austrian immigrant to the state, Charles L. Ostner, carved the statue in the late 1860s from a single pine tree, using crude tools. It has since become a beloved public icon of pioneer spirit and patriotic sentiment.
