Abstract
The Kentucky Old State Capitol in Frankfort, built from 1827–1830 and used to house the state's authorities until 1910. Designed by Gideon Shryock, this splendid example of Greek Revival style, similar to others of the time, was an attempt to bring a sense of culture and governmental legitimacy to the early American West by means of architecture based on temples of antiquity.
