Abstract

This paper will explore what is currently known about the neurobiology, epidemiology, and clinical context of self-injury in adolescents. Clinical wisdom has thus far recommended the avoidance of group programs for these young people on the grounds of possible provocation of copycat events. However the MOSH program challenges this idea? Moving On from Self Harm? is a replication in Australia of an English randomised controlled study using group work as the central therapy. We will report on the setting up of the program in 3 sites across 2 States, the complexity of gaining 150 young people for the groups, some items from the group process, and some early results from our RCT. A single case will be examined to show the positive impact of the interviewing process, the program and the intensive follow-up.
