Abstract

This paper examines the lens through which the body, the brain and the world is perceived. There are observable and recordable activities in the brain which correlate with subjective states but there is a gap between the two which is reconciled through thought. The paper studies also the instruments used in this process of thinking. It looks at the nature of these instruments and makes judgments as to which restrict the mind and which expand it. It tries to lay the foundation without which compassion and human concern become distorted, frequently leading to hypocrisy.
