Background: This Supplement to the Scandinavian Journal of Public Health brings
together a collection of community-based studies for which the common denominator is
a demographic surveillance site, FilaBavi, established in northern Vietnam in 1999.
This introductory paper sets out some of the background to FilaBavi as well as
setting the scene for the individual studies.
