β-Ti dendrite toughened metal glass composite and TC4 titanium alloy were butt welded by a pulsed laser. Microstructures and mechanical properties of the welded joint were specially studied. Results show that microstructure in the fusion zone is uneven, and mainly consists of dendritical β-Ti grains (in nanometre or micron scales) and amorphous alloy background. Special chemical compositions of base materials, shocking effect from laser pulses and large cooling speed during welding directly restrain the development of crystal β-Ti grain in the fusion zone. Hardness in the fusion zone ranges from 500 HV to more than 600 HV. During tensile tests, all the welded joints fracture on TC4 titanium alloy base material side.
