Abstract

With the completion of this final issue of Volume 27 of International Journal of Toxicology (IJT), we want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Harihara Mehendale. Dr. Mehendale, Professor of Toxicology at the University of Louisiana, Monroe, will step down as Editor as of January 2009, but his impact on IJT will continue as a standard of excellence.
IJT, the sole official journal of the American College of Toxicology, had its origin as the Journal of the American College of Toxicology in 1982. Drs. Mildred S. Christian and Robert M. Diener have served as past Editors-in-Chief of the journal. During his eleven-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Mehendale oversaw a dramatic increase in visibility and impact factor for IJT, and recruited a loyal and talented international Editorial Board. IJT publishes a broad range of toxicology manuscripts, and, since 1986, ACT has annually honored the best student publication with the Furst award. In addition, since 1999, the Publications Committee has recognized the “Best Paper” each year.
Dr. Mehendale will be succeeded as Editor-in-Chief by Dr. Mary Beth Genter from the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Environmental Health. We fully support Dr. Genter in this new endeavor, and thank Dr. Mehendale most sincerely for his dedication to International Journal of Toxicology.
