Abstract

Objective: To explore the decline in expertise of the consultant psychiatrist and its replacement by a range of professional colleagues.

Conclusion: Averting a devaluing of expertise in Australasia requires thoughtfulness, willingness to quietly and confidently contribute, and professional behaviour. There are early promising developments.
