Abstract
The new spectrometer SPAN at BERII (BENSC) combines neutron-spin-echo (NSE) and time-offlight (TOF) operation and thus it will cover a uniquely large dynamic range of 5 orders of magnitude in energy transfer in a single experiment. In the TOF configuration, which becomes operational within the next months, the neutrons go through 4 Choppers giving a resolution better than 0.1 meV at 7 Å. The novel design of the NSE precession magnetic field with an axial symmetry will allows us to make simultaneous NSE measurements over a wide angular range with an expected best resolution of 0.1 μeV.
