Abstract
The gas amplification factors (gas gains) for BF3, 3He + Kr, 3He + Ar + CO2 and 3He + CF4 filled neutron proportional counters in cylindrical geometry, as a function of the applied potential, are experimentally determined. The data obtained are analysed using the Diethorn and Bateman expressions and values for gas constants ΔV, K, W and λ calculated. The variation of W and λ with gas pressure is also studied.
