POLDI—the New Time-of-flight Diffractometer at PSI for Strain-field Measurements

Abstract

The new time-of-flight diffractometer for strain-field measurements POLDI at the continuous spallation source SINQ at PSI is presented. High intensity and high resolution are achieved simultaneously by allowing pulse overlapping. The dependence of the arrival time of the neutrons in the detector on the scattering angle allows the calculation of the diffraction pattern. The basic concept and the main instrument components are presented in this paper.
