Abstract
A high anisotropy for grain orientation dependent residual stress, or inter-granular stress, was previously found for the austenite and deformation-induced martensite in a cold-rolled 301 stainless steel. This paper focuses on the changes of both macroscopic residual stress and inter-granular residual stress in both phases after annealing at 500°C for 2 h. Such a detailed analysis of the relaxation of anisotropic residual stresses, induced by annealing, can provide insights into the mechanism of anisotropic recovery for different orientated grains/texture components.
