Abstract

The President of the German Surgery Association, Prof. Dr. med. H.U. Steinau, presenting the certificate of Honorary Membership to René Baumgartner in Munich.
When one talks about amputations, the name René Baumgartner is automatically in the air. Since his postgraduate thesis in 1972 on Leg amputations and the supply of prosthesis on circulatory disorders, he has been associated with this topic and is greatly respected worldwide.
In his numerous statements, presentations, seminars, lectures and reference books he has been resolutely committed to giving to the patient the best possible care and technical support. Not only was the medical aspect of interest to him but he also felt comfortable in technical orthopaedics and has closely involved with it.
This involvement with technical orthopaedics can be seen in his many reference books and in particular in his Introduction to Technical Orthopaedics which also reflects the many facets of his professional interest in this specific field.
René Baumgartner has been involved with ISPO for a long time. He has always provided his professional knowledge, whether it was for the National Member Societies of Switzerland and Germany or for International Society.
This high recognition as an Honorary Member was awarded by the German Surgical Association to an often critical Orthopaedic specialist is a rare occurrence and recognises and underlines his dedication and his efforts for the great benefit of the patients with whom he was involved.
The ISPO congratulates René Baumgartner for this outstanding recognition.
