Abstract
Kemal al-Gizouli is General Secretary of the banned Sudan Writers' Union, aformer Attorney General and a member of the banned Sudan Bar Association. He was imprisoned on 10 August 1989 following the military coup in Sudan and was held without charge or trial until a government amnesty for political prisoners in May 1991. During his imprisonment, he was only allowed to see his wife on a handful of occasions and did not see his children until his release. He was rearrested in March 1992 and detained until July.
