Abstract
After elections in May, outrages in June. On 20 June President Ion Iliescu took office and tried to disown the savagery he had called for by the miners-turned-storm-troops. Romania Liberá had been forced to stop publication on 15, 16 and 18 June for the first time in its history. Romania had told the world that change after Ceausescu would be delayed. An Index correspondent looks at the early exercise of freedom.
