Abstract
Have the country's media helped or hindered the search for peace? A group from Colombia's National University give their answer.
To uncover the roots of the violence which has brought Colombia to the verge of civil war, the Minister of the Interior, Dr Fernando Cepeda Ulloa, called on the help of National University. Their report, Colombia: Violencia y Democracia, (Centro Editorial de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, July 1987) concludes: “The violence in Colombia can still be checked. To achieve this, all Colombians should show themselves willing to defend peace and democracy in every area of life-economic, social, and personal. This means we should all commit ourselves to making tolerance the chief bastion of the life of our nation.‘
