Abstract
A leading Polish poet who played an active part in editing unofficial publications, Anka Kowalska was one of the many Polish intellectuals taken from their homes on the night of 13 December 1981 when martial law was imposed by General Jaruzelski. She was released for reasons of ill health in May last year and allowed to go to Paris.
