Abstract
Denied all writing materials, he continued to compose poetry in prison, committing the verses to memory. The first poem on p.49 (translated by Tom Jones) dates from his first prison term and is on the war in Vietnam. It was published in 1969, having been sent out when he was between detentions. The other two (translated by Jo Labanyi) were composed in Suriwon camp and published in 1975 by Monte Avila Editores, Caracas.
The following is from Ali Lameda: A Personal Account of the Experience of a Prisoner of Conscience in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (Amnesty Int., 8–14 Southampton St., London WC2).
