Abstract
This is the second of a series of occasioned articles in which writers give a personal view of the country in which they live. While accepting Marya Mannes's comment that Index has neglected America, we hasten to point out that a series of three articles was devoted to the House Unamerican Activities Committee and its consequences (Index 1, 2 and 3/1973), and that in Index 1/1975 Richard Kostelanetz made some criticisms of America on somewhat different lines from Miss Mannes. We are aware of many omissions in this area and look forward to making them good as our American contacts (and readership) increase.
