Abstract
The improvement effect of nucleation stirred by vibration technology on defect zone of riser and the formation mechanism were investigated using ammonium chloride solution as the simulation medium. On the basis of this, the feasibility and application effect of this technology used for ingot casting production were researched by industrial experiments. The results show that due to the cross growth of coarser equiaxed grains generated in the centre of solidification mould which produced some small closed regions, the defect zone of riser was formed. The fine equiaxed grain would be formed in the ingot riser after treated by the nucleation stirred by vibration technology. Therefore, centre segregation of the ingot was alleviated obviously. Industrial experiments show that the carbon segregation could be decreased from 0.080 wt-%C to 0.006 wt-%C according to the measured results.
